A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Sharon & Robert's wedding. They were gracious enough to allow me to bring along my friend Priscilla, a fellow photographer on the rise. P wanted to gain some experience in wedding photography and I was happy to give her an opportunity to stretch her skills. She took some great photos and was great company!
Priscilla and I met when I was a young adult librarian at the public library. She had such enthusiasm for everything she did and was always making me laugh. Yeah, she was that loud teen who you were complaining about at the front desk because you couldn't read Consumer Reports or the daily news. Back then, she was a crazy teen volunteer and now she has grown into a smart and beautiful young lady.
We've kept in touch over the years, because we share a few passions like photography and running. She definitely is a better runner than I am and she works very hard at it. I've become a slacker since I started this whirlwind of a business! I'm getting back into the groove though, and she inspires me daily to do so.
I am so happy for her that she's picked up the camera and found that passion within herself. I can't explain it, but when you find something you absolutely love to do and can express your creative side, it's magnificent. I always felt somewhat empty my whole life, like something was just missing. I've changed jobs, career paths and just couldn't pinpoint what it was I needed to do. I tried painting and was horrible! Drawing, not me! I am a visual person and I was searching for that thing that would make me feel like I could express myself visually.
I'm glad she's found that thing inside her that ticks, the drive to do amazing things and keep trying new ideas without fear. I love the fact that not only do I do this for myself, but I am able to give something to others that will be cherished. That is what brings me the biggest joy.
Through photography, I can finally express that silly, creative and happy side. I also feel honored that people will remember the session experience for years and have some awesome images to go in their family archives! It's weird, but finally I feel whole. I love my day job, as a high school librarian, offering guidance to students and learning from them. And I absolutely love my night, weekend, summer, every moment of the day job, photography. I know my husband is happy about that too!
What about your job or jobs brings you joy?
Lastly, I just want to say thanks for all the help P gave me at the wedding! I'll definitely be bringing her along in the future, before she gets too big :)
We had a little fun as well, because, well who doesn't want to have fun at a wedding?
I'm hard at work...You get great exercise crouching around taking photos!
Experimenting with her camera... don't let it catch on fire!
A gorgeous shot from a wonderful photographer... P.
